NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island’s longstanding support of the community continues with the latest health and wellness programs. Classes
This four-week fitness and strength-training class for senior adults focuses on decreasing the risk of falls. Participants gain knowledge on risk factors inside and outside the home, body mechanics and healthy lifestyle tips. Rebuilding Balance is a great resource to gain physical activity, increase personal safety and engage with peers. Balance assessments are required one month prior to starting class.

Tai Chi is recommended by the CDC as an effective approach for preventing falls. The course includes two classes a week for eight weeks. The program’s goal is to reduce the risk of falls by improving balance, confidence and muscular strength. Other benefits include increased calmness and an improved sense of well-being. Balance assessments are required one month prior to starting class.

Registration is required for this free six-week program to help smokers quit for good. Topics include motivational support and pharmacological interventions. Sessions are facilitated by a nurse practitioner and social worker from NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island’s Department of Behavioral Health.
