Community Service Plan

Serving our Community

As a major regional healthcare provider, NYU Winthrop Hospital is deeply committed to the wellness of the communities it serves.

We offer sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic care in virtually every specialty and subspecialty of medicine and surgery, while adhering to the personalized and compassionate approach to healing that is the guiding philosophy of our Hospital.

NYU Winthrop engages in ongoing assessment of the healthcare needs of the community, provides charity care services, and continuously works to improve access to healthcare services for all members of the community.

Understanding Our Community’s Needs

NYU Winthrop welcomes and encourages public input. Ongoing participation by representatives from all segments of the community result in valuable information and feedback that is essential to our needs assessment process. This feedback mechanism is NYU Winthrop’s most valuable asset in its ability to keep programs in sync with the constantly changing healthcare pulse of the community and diverse populations it serves.

Community Service Plan 2016-2018

NYU Winthrop Hospital’s mission is to provide high-quality, safe, culturally competent, and comprehensive healthcare services in a teaching and research environment, which improves the health and well-being of the residents of Nassau County and contiguous county areas. This is based on a profound commitment to an enduring guiding principle – “Your Health Means Everything.”

The Hospital’s Community Service Plan is guided by and reflects its mission statement – to improve the health and well-being of the residents it serves. This Plan was developed to address public health priorities established by the New York State Department of Health’s Prevention Agenda. The Agenda calls for state and local action to improve the health of all New Yorkers, and to reduce health disparities for racial, ethnic, disability, socioeconomic, and other groups who experience them.

Priorities were determined through a collaborative county-wide Community Needs Assessment conducted in 2016, as required by the Affordable Care Act to identify and outline our goals and agenda in serving our community’s needs.
