It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website for the Department of Family Dental Medicine at NYU Long Island School of Medicine and NYU Winthrop Hospital, part of the NYU Langone Health network. The Department provides optimal comprehensive dental care to our diverse patient community while providing an educational environment of academic excellence for our residents. Oral health is essential to general health and well being and our Department plays a strategic role in the improvement of health of our patients. As members of the NYU Winthrop medical staff, our dentists and surgeons provide care collaboratively with other departments and divisions at NYU Winthrop to ensure that patients receive the best comprehensive treatment possible. We provide a full range of modern dental services in our state-of-the-art clinic as well as providing care in the operating room under general anesthesia for young children who require extensive dental treatment and adults with developmental or complex medical conditions who would otherwise be unable to access dental care. We also treat patients that present to our Emergency Department with a wide variety of emergencies including orofacial infections, maxillofacial and dentoalveolar trauma as well as providing medically necessary dental care for inpatients. Annually, we see more than 11,000 patient clinic visits as well as almost 400 after-hours emergency patients treated in the Emergency Department.

We strive to provide a stimulating and comprehensive training experience that will enable clinical trainees to contribute to improving oral health through teaching, research, and innovative clinical practice that is accessible to all. We are proud of the exceptional training programs we offer to our general practice and pediatric residents. At the Center for Family Dental Medicine, we offer an unparalleled opportunity for residents to learn from our committed faculty and perform a wide variety of procedures in all phases of modern dentistry, including preventive, restorative, prosthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, oral medicine, pediatrics and both the placement and restoration of implants. These experiences are designed to prepare our graduates to enter private practice or open the doors to further training, specialization, and research. Additionally, the Department is actively engaged in providing didactic and clinical teaching for the medical students at the Long Island School of Medicine with the goal of integrating oral health into primary care medical training.

Collectively, our dedicated staff, residents and faculty will continue the ascent of NYU Winthrop Hospital Department of Family Dental Medicine into one of the top dental programs in the nation. We believe deeply in our obligation to serve our community and we dedicate ourselves to fulfilling this mission through improved access to care, innovation and education.
