NYU Winthrop Hospital is one of the region’s leading healthcare resources. It is a tertiary care teaching hospital with 591 beds that includes a Level III NICU Referral Center and is one of the 18 Regional Perinatal Centers in New York State. NYU Winthrop also features a Category I Cancer Center, an American College of Surgeons Certified Level I Trauma Center with full adult and pediatric capabilities, and a Regional Poison Control Center. NYU Winthrop Hospital is a recipient for the Five-Star Award for Maternity Care, Women’s Health and Gynecological Surgery.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology serves patients from all of Nassau County, as well as Eastern Queens and parts of Western Suffolk County. The department includes 35 full-time faculty and approximately 80 voluntary attending physicians. The faculty is actively involved in teaching, supervision, research, patient care and administration. Approximately 5,000 deliveries, 2,000 major and 3,000 minor gynecologic surgeries are performed annually. All obstetric and gynecologic patients are teaching cases and are available to the residents for such purposes.

The New Life Center includes 16 labor and delivery suites, six triage rooms, three operating rooms and a level III NICU. The operating and recovery rooms are designated solely for cesarean deliveries and obstetrical procedures. Over 8,000 visits are made to the triage unit at the New Life Center, and approximately 12,000 surveillance tests and ultrasound scans are performed at the division’s ultrasound unit.
