How to Apply for Residency

View Medical Education

Medical students can apply to the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at NYU Winthrop Hospital through the Electronic Residency Application System which is overseen by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). When applying to our orthopaedic surgery residency program through ERAS, please include the following items with your application:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • Dean’s Letter
  • Medical School Transcript
  • Three Letters of Recommendation
  • U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 Scores

The deadline to receive completed applications is November 1, 2020. Completed applications are evaluated by the Program Director, Chairman and their appointed Resident Selection Committee, consisting of orthopaedic faculty members from NYU Winthrop Hospital. Qualified individuals will be invited to interview with our program. Each candidate will be interviewed by key faculty (consisting of three to four faculty members within each group), including the Chairman and Program Director. Candidates will get a tour of the NYU Winthrop campus led by our current orthopaedic surgery residents who will be available to speak with and answer questions. Each candidate is ranked, and the names are submitted to the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Upon completion of the match in March, the program and applicants are notified of the results and who will be joining our program.
