Message from the Program Director
Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Residency Program at NYU Winthrop Hospital’s Children’s Medical Center. Our Pediatric Residency Program is extremely well poised to deliver the ACGME mandated curriculum, and meet the individual needs and goals of our residents. Our residents care for a diverse patient population and are exposed to a wide variety of disease pathology. This experience prepares them well for their chosen career, whether as a generalist or a specialist, hospital-based or office-based. Our faculty has been assembled for both their academic excellence as well as their clinical skill. They are an enthusiastic, talented, energetic group of doctors who love what they do. If you ask our residents what they like most about our program, the answer in unison would be the camaraderie that they have with the faculty, fellow residents and nurses. Residents feel supported and guided in a friendly non-judgmental environment as they make important decisions, whether it is about patient care or their careers. As they gain experience, residents are encouraged to take on more leadership roles and make more decisions about the care of their patients under the supervision of our faculty. This enhances learning, prepares the residents for independent practice and produces excellence.
At NYU Winthrop Hospital, we are extremely proud of being proactive about implementing the exciting changes in residency education. We have developed an individualized curriculum for each resident based on their personal career goals and learning needs. Pediatric residents participate in a variety of quality improvement projects and we have instituted a robust patient safety and medical errors curriculum. Our residents also take an active part in shaping their own educational experience through participation in curriculum development meetings, residency issues meetings and the hospital-wide house staff committee.
Your education and well-being will be a priority at NYU Winthrop Hospital. Our residents work hard but also have fun and develop lasting relationships during their three years of residency training. As a resident in our program, you will enjoy a high acuity, busy training environment and a culturally diverse patient population. At NYU Winthrop Hospital, you will work with an enthusiastic, friendly faculty with varied academic interests and alongside a really fine group of people — your fellow residents!
