Mission

The mission of the William C. Hollis Health Sciences Library is to support the educational, clinical and research activities of the faculty, clinicians, residents, fellows and students of NYU Winthrop Hospital by providing quality biomedical information resources.

Vision

The Hollis Health Sciences Library will continue to advance the mission of NYU Winthrop Hospital with premier biomedical information resources that is easily and conveniently accessible to our patrons. The library will be integral to the information and research needs of the Hospital as a whole. Our resources are dynamic in meeting the changing needs of each department and specialty and our patrons’ information seeking behavior. We envision partnering with our teaching, research and clinical communities by licensing databases and resources, providing interactive instruction, and designing comprehensive guides and tutorials. We strive to offer innovative services and a collaborative space to facilitate a teaching and research environment to support the high caliber of teaching, research and patient care at NYU Winthrop.

Library History

William C. Hollis, M.D. served NYU Winthrop Hospital as Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Director of Medical Education for more than thirty years until his retirement in the late 1970s. He was a mentor to hundreds of physicians and an honored colleague to hundreds more. The Health Sciences Library, constructed in part with contributions from his former students and physician friends, was dedicated to his memory at its opening in May 1989.
