Pricing Estimates and Information – Insured & Uninsured Patients
NYU Winthrop Hospital offers many forms of financial relief for patients without healthcare insurance needing emergent or non-elective services.
Financial Counselor
We have financial counselors on hand to evaluate your eligibility for various Local and State Programs, including County Assistance and Medicaid.
Financial Assistance Discount Policy
NYU Winthrop Hospital has a Financial Assistance Discount Policy that provides free hospital care for patients who have received non-elective care, do not meet the qualifications for Medicaid and whose income is less than 500% (in most cases) of the Federal Poverty Level. In order to qualify for this free care, you must complete a Financial Assistance Application and provide some documents to support your income. To access Financial Assistance please contact 516-576-5600.
Uninsured Discount Policy
For patients who do not meet the Financial Assistance Discount Policy criteria and will be expected to pay for services out of pocket, NYU Winthrop Hospital offers a managed care-like discount. All Uninsured patients (excluding those receiving cosmetic procedures and certain “package” procedures) will be given an Uninsured Discount. To obtain information on our uninsured discount policy please contact Patient Access services at 516-663-3956.
Payment
Similar to visits to your physician’s office, we expect payment at time of service. If you are ineligible for Medicaid or Charity and cannot pay your entire estimated bill, we will work with you to set up monthly payment arrangements. If any additional payment is due after your services are received, we will send you information about any amount you may still owe. NYU Winthrop Hospital accepts major credit cards, checks, and cash.
For Individuals with Insurance (including Medicaid and Medicare)
You will need to contact your insurance company to determine the specifics about what you will be expected to pay. Our Financial counselors are available to provide you with assistance if you have difficulty meeting your financial obligation.

Prior to your call, please contact your physician’s office to obtain the specific diagnosis and/or procedure description. When you call our Service Center, please have the following information available, so that we can provide you with the most accurate estimate possible:
- Description of services needed – we will need to know as much information as possible about the specific services as described by your physician.
- Type of Services needed – we need to know if you will be admitted to the hospital as an inpatient overnight, or if you are expected to be treated on an outpatient basis.
- Physician/Specialist Name – example, if you are having surgery, we will want to know the surgeon’s name.
Please contact our Patient Access department at 516-663-3956 to obtain an estimate on your upcoming procedure.
