Proud to be one of the largest, most specialized epilepsy treatment programs
on Long Island
At NYU Winthrop Hospital, our Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is one of the largest such programs on Long Island. A clinical arm of Stony Brook University School of Medicine, our center is staffed by a team of highly-trained specialists — including epileptologists, epilepsy surgeons, and neuropsychologists — who collaborate to provide state-of-the-art diagnosis and epilepsy treatment. We specialize in the treatment and management of patients with forms of epilepsy that are difficult to control.
Level-4 Epilepsy Treatment Center
Representing the highest certification in accordance with the National Association of Epilepsy Centers’ guidelines for patient care.
Our mission at the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is to administer personalized, world-class care for people with epilepsy through comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, advanced treatment options, and active participation in medical education and cutting edge research.
An important goal of our center includes seizure reduction, and possible seizure elimination with medical and surgical therapies. The center employs the leading-edge diagnostic evaluation with imaging, neurophysiologic monitoring, and neuropsychological evaluation to provide safe and effective surgical options for patients with medication-resistant epilepsy. If one of our patients is considered a candidate for surgery, decision- making occurs through an integrated alliance with the epilepsy treatment team, primary care physician, and patient.
Our team of epileptologists, surgeons, and neuropsychologists discuss individualized plans for each patient at weekly multidisciplinary surgical meetings where we explore all of the potential strategies , should a neurosurgical approach be chosen.
We strive to provide comprehensive services to support and educate those with epilepsy, their families, and the community. Epilepsy, like other chronic conditions, impacts quality of life and everyday living. We fully understand the significant challenges people with epilepsy face every day and consider addressing these issues is tantamount in providing optimal care. The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center offers access to community resources, health information provided by epilepsy health professionals, and psycho-social support.
Our team includes a staff of neurologists with specialty training in epilepsy, electroencephalography (EEG), and clinical neurophysiology.
