Robotic Surgery, Surgeons and Procedures
The latest advance in minimally invasive surgery, known as the da Vinci® Surgical System, is hard at work in NYU Winthrop Hospital’s operating rooms, providing patients with the best possible surgery experiences and outcomes for an increasing number of cancerous and non-cancerous conditions.
Advanced Robotic Surgery on Long Island
Minimally invasive da Vinci Surgical System uses the latest surgical, endoscopic and robotics technologies to deftly perform both routine and complex surgical procedures with remarkable precision. Even the most complicated procedures are faster and easier, as well as less traumatic for the patient. The robotic surgeon is 100% in control of the da Vinci robotic system, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more exact movements of tiny instruments inside the body. The da Vinci System literally exceeds the limits of the human hand.
Highly Skilled Robotic Surgeons
NYU Winthrop’s top surgeons have extensive training and certification on the da Vinci Surgical System. Since NYU Winthrop Hospital was among the first Long Island hospitals to offer the revolutionary da Vinci system in 2010, our physicians represent a world-class team of experienced robotic surgeons.
Eva Chalas, MD, Chief of Gynecological Oncology and Physician Director, NYU Winthrop Hospital Cancer Center, emphasized that da Vinci robotic surgery is a far superior approach to [open] surgery. “The [robotic] surgeon’s view of the surgical field exceeds what is achieved with the natural eye,” Dr. Chalas said, “and the control over the instruments is more precise thanks to technology that translates the surgeon’s movements into exquisitely defined movements by the robotic instruments.”
da Vinci Robotic Surgery Procedures
NYU Winthrop’s robotic surgery team regularly performs a broad spectrum of procedures including:
