junior volunteers honored

A prospective TEEN volunteer must be between the ages of 16 to 18 years and in high school to be accepted into the Teen Volunteer Program.

The orientation class is MANDATORY in order to be accepted into the program.

Deadline to apply for the school year program is August 1st.

Deadline to apply for the summer program is May 1st.

Health Requirements

A recent physical exam, proof of immunizations and a tuberculosis (TB) skin testing (PPD Mantoux method) must be provided by your physician within 12 months prior to the application due date. Positive skin test responders will require a chest x-ray. Volunteers will be required to provide proof of being vaccinated with the current year’s Flu Vaccine in order to volunteer during flu season. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), flu season begins October 1st each year.

Working Card

Working papers are obtained at local schools. After providing the necessary information to the guidance department, the issuing counselor or designated school official will provide the applicant with an Employee Certificate. The original working card must be attached to the Teen Volunteer Application. Photocopies will not be accepted. Original Employee Certificates are returned after the application has been processed.

Only the green working card for students 16 to 17 years of age will be accepted.

After acceptance into the Teen Volunteer Program, prospective volunteers will be notified to attend an orientation which includes an in-service workshop conducted by the Hospital’s professional staff. Attendance is Mandatory. After orientation, each Teen Volunteer will be notified of their placement via email and given information on scheduling an appointment for an identification badge and other necessary information to start.

Teen Volunteers are required to work a minimum of one (1) shift per week of three (3) hours while school is in session. Additional shifts may be available at request when school is out of session.

Teen Volunteers are scheduled to work between the hours of 8am – 7pm. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate both schoolwork and family responsibilities.
